Ollie (formerly Aragon)
I went to Petsmart to get supplies and left with the sweetest most awesome cat who is now a member of my family!! Ollie or Oliver (previously Aragon) is a spunky yet laid back kitten who has been a wonderful addition to our family. He loves water and runs to it whenever he hears it running. All our furry family members get regular baths and he loves it! He is so laid back his grooming can use some help so Otis, our well groomed, older, more cautious cat helps him with this task. He is a joy to our family and is still growing and as he grows his tail gets puffier. There is never a dull moment with Oliver around, which we love!! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give Ollie a good home. Kristi
Kiara (formerly Penelope)
Kiara was adopted January 1, 2008---her 1st birthday!! She timidly came to us from a wonderful foster home where she had been recuperating from being starved, chained to a post with
2 other dogs and never having her collar adjusted so it grew into her neck prior to her being rescued. She is now the alpha dog and playmate to our male Black Lab and 3 black cats (all from shelters). She sleeps on my bed every night and probably most of the day, loves to go for walks/runs and is the most loving sweetheart of a dog. We are so lucky to have her! My oldest daughter named her from The Lion King 2 to give her courage because she was so shy and fearful. We love her very much and she gives it back tenfold!
Lentil
Lentil is a sweet adorable lovable boy. He is a great companion for my son. He weighs about 80 lbs and loves to run and play. Kathryne Stephenson
Lucas (formerly Duke)
I adopted Lucas from ARPO at 8 weeks old. That was in March 2005 and he has been my delightful companion ever since. He was very shy around people and other animals when he was younger. I took him with me wherever I could to help him get used to the world. We also went to doggie-training classes and to the dog park almost every day. He is still leery of people but does great with cats and dogs. And they all love him! My friend calls him ‘the George Clooney of dogs’ because he is so charming. I often wonder what happened to his litter mates. His adoption papers say he is a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix but at 45 lbs. there must be a few other things in there! I love him dearly and am so grateful to ARPO and his foster family for taking care of him and matching us up! Thank you. Thank you!
Nora (formerly Cora)
I adopted Nora a few months ago and I couldn’t be happier. She is so loving and spunky. I have never seen another dog with a similar personality. We quickly bonded upon meeting at Petsmart. She just wouldn’t leave my side (nor did I want to leave hers). In just a short time- she has fully adjusted and recognizes that this is her home now and she won’t be passed around anymore. We can’t wait to celebrate her first birthday that is coming up soon! ARPO is such a great organization and I had a wonderful experience with my foster mother. You can tell that everyone really cares. I have referred several people already- that are interesting in a new dog. Nora has changed my life and I couldn’t image a day without her now. Thanks, Kellie Trautmann

Jimmy (formerly Mater)
Jimmy has been such a joy and awesome addition to our little family.  I adopted him in November as a surprise for my fiancé as we just bought our first home and always said we would adopt a dog and name him Jimmy after Jimmy Buffett!  Well we definitely have our little or should I say big boy!  He is such a lovable and well behaved dog.  His personality is out of this world and just suits us perfectly.  Thank you to ARPO for allowing us this opportunity to have Jimmy as apart of our family.  If we decide to adopt again, we will definitely come to you guys first.  Thank you for all you guys do!
Monroe (formerly Mongo)
About a year ago, my fiancée and I decided to rescue a dog in need. After much searching, we found “Mongo”, a Golden Retriever mix. I believe it was Amy who introduced us to him at his foster parent’s home. I instantly fell in love, and my son, who is afraid of large dogs, instantly bonded with him. We agreed to adopt him. It was challenging at first as he was trying to establish where he belonged in our “pack”. But after lots of redirection and lots of love, he soon became a perfect addition to our family. When we received his paperwork, I was in for a very special treat; we shared the same birthday! That further confirmed that he belonged with us. We kept his given name, Monroe. We often call him Roe Dog as a nick name. He has proven to be very smart, and loves to be loved on or simply by your side whenever he has the chance. Thank you so very much for giving us the opportunity to give Monroe his furever home.
Yetta (formerly Yoda) was adopted last fall and spent her first Christmas and Hanukkah with me and her brother Solly who was adopted from the Kokomo Humane Society. Yetta is such a sweetheart! She and Solly are the best of friends! They are together all the time. They bring such joy and happiness to my life and I thank God for my lovable new companions!

Naomi joined our family in September of 2009. Because she was a pit-bull puppy (and we are first time pit-bull parents), we knew that she may require some special attention and care. We are pleased to report that over 2 years later, we have only had love and kisses from our girl. We owe our success in large part to ARPO. ARPO was very educated on her breed and made sure that we were prepared to handle our new family member. Naomi came to us fully house trained, socialized, vaccinated and chipped. She was even
on a feeding schedule - we couldn't ask for a better start. Naomi's story started like so many others that ARPO saves. She was abandoned with kennel cough, picked up by Animal Care and Control and scheduled for euthanasia. Thank goodness Naomi Deal of ARPO was there that day - turned back to rescue her, and nursed her back to good health and adoption ready. Because of caring individuals like Naomi Deal at ARPO, we have had a source of constant comfort and joy in our household that we never had before we adopted Naomi. After ongoing training, Naomi will soon be ready for her Canine Good Citizen test, with the goal of becoming a therapy dog to comfort those in need. If you are considering adopting, you can rest in choosing ARPO. ARPO is an excellent source for quality treatment and placement of rescue animals. And please consider a pit-bull or pit-bull mix. On average, 1 in 599 nationwide are saved. This 1 could be just for you.  Thank you, ARPO!
Scout adopted us in April. She is the most loving, snuggly pup we have ever
owned. Every day she entertains us with her silly antics and each evening, she becomes “Devil Dog” by running around and around the house as fast as possible, only to fall “dead” on the sofa and call it a night! She came to us well loved by her Foster family and Carrie was a dream to work with. Thank you
ARPO for all the great work you continue to do every day! Claire and Chris
Exactly one year ago today, we welcomed Jolene (originally Razz) into our home. Thank you to ARPO, especially Carrie Stark and Catherine King, for saving our sweet girl and making such a huge difference in our lives. Jo inspired me to volunteer for Indy Pit Crew, and she continues to be a source of joy to us. She and our other dog Eleanor get along great, Eleanor has come out of
her shell too. Thank you ARPO for everything you do!!
I wanted to send an email to thank ARPO and Mary Anna for helping me find my little man Aslan! I was running my typical Saturday errands and went to Pet Smart to pick up dog food. ARPO was having an adoption fair so I took advantage and loved on all the baby puppies and then I saw him laying there on the floor. I just couldn’t walk away; I was captivated by his cute little nose. I was headed out of town for a week for work, so I snapped a picture of him to take with me.  After a few days of contemplation (and falling in love) I applied to become his new mother. He joined our family that Saturday morning, and it’s a perfect fit! He is a special little guy, and received so much love from his foster mother I can’t thank her enough. He now spends every waking moment following, playing, and sleeping with his big sister. They are both such blessings in my life.
Hi! I'm Einstein (formerly Hinkle). I was adopted by my forever family and I couldn't be happier! My Mom & Dad adopted me last June and they let me have the run of the house (even though I like to take my kitten naps and snuggle with my two older kitty brothers, Xavier & Zelda)! I have even learned a few tricks like to speak when spoken to and to sit for my treats. If Mom & Dad
adopt in the future, they will definitely adopt from ARPO.
Having adopted Penny from ARPO in the summer of 2005 as a playmate for our black lab mix Nikki, we knew where to turn when looking to add another dog to our family. We lost our beloved Nikki in April of 2008 to bone cancer and
needed to find a playmate for Penny. Gypsy fit the bill. She is a very energetic dog and gives Penny all she can handle. She can be quite "hyper" but aims to please wiggling her whole backside in excitement waiting for us to throw her toy. Recently moving to Pittsburgh for a job change, we still want to thank ARPO back in Indy for helping us find our two best friends, Penny and Gypsy! Don't worry Colts fans, our dogs don't care much for football!
I have been looking for another addition to our family for a couple years now. I was looking for another dog to exercise with, for protection, and companion. I saw Izzy, formerly Blinkin, on the website. Izzy, was listed as a Shepard mix & her mother was a beagle. I think she may have some boxer in her too. I sent an email but didn't act right away. I waited. It turns out she was actually, adopted but didn't work out. I saw she was still available after some time. I did the application. I wasn't going to go see her that day at PetsMart but I couldn't get her out of my head. I drove to PetsMart in the snowy bad weather that day. I wasn't sure about her initially because she didn't seem that interested in me. About that time I was thinking that she looked up at me and gave me a big kiss. Then went back to playing. I knew then, she is mine. I have an 11yr old silky terrier, Peanut. I knew Izzy would be a bit more challenging to train because she already demonstrated she was more independent. I'm not going to lie. The first month was awful, simply because Peanut doesn't want
anything to do with her. Of course, all Izzy wants to do is play with Peanut. Izzy took to potty training outside within 3 days. She still had a few accidents. Peanut & Izzy are getting along better now. Sometimes Peanut will actually initiated play for all of one minute! Izzy has had a few health issues but is recovering & hopefully over it now with the help of the vet, good diet, and supplements.
She is a true joy. She likes to watch some TV, listen to music, explore everything new, is curious about
everything, loves to smell everything!!! Of course, she likes to smell food but not to necessarily eat it. She is a very picky eater & only likes a few human foods. She likes to play with toys, ball in the yard, loves all people, and animals. My neighbors come out to greet her and look forward to seeing her. She has to make her rounds everyday. She can't wait to greet them. She wags her butt & tail when
running to them. It's so cute. Peanut has a small fan club, too, but I think Izzy has more. She seems to have a naturally know how to behave in public and seems to know how to adapt to person age. The employees at PetsMart love her & call her by name. They all take turnspettin g her. She really enjoys licking the children head to toe. She probably won't be much of a guard dog. She could possible lick someone to death. Of course, when she is at home she can be a little rotten. She loves to torment Peanut. Her favorite thing is paper towel or toilet paper and the empty rolls. She loves to tear them up. She is really good though. She waits for me to give them to her. She also loves me to rock on the outside swing. Did I mention she is now 35 lbs & about 5 months old?! What a big baby!
So, I probably told you more than you wanted to know. I am just so happy with her. I will never buy another dog from a pet store. I would definitely adopt again. I can't say enough about ARPO & how impressed I am with everybody I met & how thankful I am for bringing Izzy & I together.
